SUMMARY:Were The World Mine
DESCRIPTION:From the locker room to the classroom\, Timothy (Tanner Cohen
) endures the boring drudgery of high school and repeated name-calling b
y his rugby-team classmates. He escapes with dreamy musical fantasies wh
ere his crush Jonathon (Nathaniel Becker) serenades him from the front o
f the class and those hunky rugby boys are the scantily clad chorus. Whe
n their eccentric English teacher (played by Wendy Robie\, Twin Peaks’ e
ye-patched Nadine) requires all the boys to participate in the school’s
production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream\,” the reaction is not so enthu
siastic. Especially from the homophobic coach\, who tries to shut down t
he production after learning his jocks will be prancing around on stage.
Timothy\, with a voice like honey\, is cast as Puck and stumbles upon a
recipe hidden within the script for a magical potion-filled pansy. One
squirt of this elixir and it’s love at first sight-- literally. Pansy in
hand\, Timothy queers the boys in school one by one\, starting with the
jock of his dreams\, Jonathon\, who is instantly besotted. Even his bes
t friend Frankie (Zelda Williams\, daughter of Robin Williams) gets pull
ed into the action when two girls fall madly for her at the town fair. S
oon much of the narrow-minded town is gay and whipped into a delicious f
renzy as the production night approaches. \n\nThe mastermind behind thi
s delightful and enchanting film is Tom Gustafson\, whose short film FAI
RIES (SLGFF 2003) was a festival sensation and serves as the feature’s i
nspiration. His imagination explodes on screen\, and the result is an in
toxicating concoction for queers of all genders. Technicolor musical num
 bers\, a witty script\, a talented cast of adorable singing schoolboys\,
and a love story spun from the pages of Shakespeare—it’s no wonder this
film has swept both juried and audience awards at film festivals across
the county. Let WERE THE WORLD MINE cast its spell on you\, too! \nKick
-off the film festival with a magical Gala at the unique and historic So
do Park. Enjoy delicious fare\, a variety of refreshing beverages\, and
the tunes of DJ Freddy King of Pants. Ample parking is available or lea
ve your car at Cinerama and hop on the big yellow bus\, which will provi
de round trips from Cinerama to Sodo Park. \n\nSodo Park \n3200 1st Aven
ue South \n Your film ticket (or Festival/Party Pass) includes the gala.

SUMMARY:Testimony
DESCRIPTION:What does it take to be both religious and queer? Local filmm
aker Kimberly Brandom explores this hot-topic issue in TESTIMONY\, a doc
umentary featuring numerous queer folks offering their views on faith in
an age of vocal religious intolerance. From Jews to Catholics to Jehova
h’s Witnesses\, subjects reflect on their own upbringings in religious c
ommunities and their struggles as adults to reconcile their faith with t
heir sexuality. Despite the variety of backgrounds and religions\, commo
n stories emerge from the testimonials: the fear of coming out\, attempt
s to pray away their gayness\, and the very real possibility that they m
ay be rejected by their religious communities for their sexuality. But d
espite their struggles\, most steadfastly hold on to their faith even if
it means they have to leave their religious affiliations or reinvent th
eir traditions of worship. There is a common feeling of hope among the t
estimonials—this faithful flock will not be dissuaded.

SUMMARY:Pageant
DESCRIPTION:Sequins bedazzle the evening gowns. Poise falters during the
on-stage question. Vibrant talent wows the enraptured audience. But only
one beauty is awarded the glittering tiara: Here she comes...Miss Gay A
merica! The Miss Gay America pageant\, held since 1973\, is all about th
e art of illusion: all contestants are female impersonators\, and the us
e of female hormones or surgical body enhancement is forbidden. There ar
e only fifty coveted spots\, and the competition is—-unsurprisingly-—fie
 rce. A charming\, behind-the-scenes documentary\, PAGEANT follows a hand
ful of contestants passionately vying for the ultimate title. They may b
e flight attendants\, Disney theme-park employees\, or backup singers in
their regular lives\, but as one contestant asserts: “I’m able to make
the most of what I’ve got when I’m in drag.” Ultimately\, they all share
the same dream: to be crowned as the one and only Miss Gay America.

r Tobin packs a powerful punch in a heartfelt lesbian coming out story d
ealing with homophobia inside and out. \n\nJess is married too soon and
too young to Trevor\, a loyal\, overly supportive husband intent on sta

SUMMARY:The Hole
DESCRIPTION:There’s an old urban legend (or is it?) of a video that posse
sses the mysterious power to turn straight men gay. All it takes is one
viewing of the tape\, which leads to a menacing phone call in the dead o
f night\, and in seven days “poofter”—you’re GAY. As rumors of the sexua
lly transformative video swirl\, and the previously straight men of the
small town begin idolizing Judy Garland and faithfully watching Lifetime
\, the situation quickly spirals out of control. The male population tri
es in vain to reclaim their heterosexuality\, but no amount of cheerlead
er porn can reverse the effects of the mysterious video. It’s up to one
very determined investigative reporter to set the story straight\, but c
an he resist the video’s magnificent power? Director Wash West (THE FLUF
FER) delivers a humorous soft-core spoof of Hideo Nakata’s THE RING to a
ccompany copious sex scenes between Josh Hammer\, Tag Eriksson\, and Jas

SUMMARY:She's A Boy I Knew
DESCRIPTION:SHE’S A BOY I KNEW is a film about gender and transition: Ste
ven comes out as Gwen\, decides to transition from male to female\, and
lives to tell about it. Watching SHE’S A BOY I KNEW is like becoming a p
art of Gwen’s extended family. Family archival footage\, one-on-one inte

ving voices of Gwen’s friends and family reveal their deeply personal st
ories throughout this process. The result is an emotionally charged acco
unt of the individual experiences\, struggles\, and stakes that her two
 sisters\, mother\, father\, best friend\, and wife brought to Gwen’s tra
 nsition. SHE’S A BOY I KNEW is comical\, heartbreaking\, uplifting\, and

SUMMARY:Word Is Out
DESCRIPTION:When this watershed film came out\, it shattered stereotypes
of the gay experience for audiences around the world\, publicizing posit
ive images of gay Americans for the first time. WORD IS OUT\, the first
feature-length documentary about lesbian and gay identity made by gay fi
 lmmakers\, is a record of 26 people\, ages 18 to 77\, talking articulate
ly about their lives. From housewives to drag queens\, they demonstrate
self-doubt and self-respect\, repression and realization\, isolation and
community. Some of the stories are sad: one man talks about how his par
ents considered castrating him when they found out he was gay. Others ar
e funny: a woman describes the two salad-a-day lesbian-cure diet that he
r doctor put her on. While much has changed in the 30 years since this g
round-breaking movie was made\, you will recognize yourself or someone y
ou know in these stories. \n\nThis film is the second to be restored by
the Outfest Legacy Project\, a collaboration with the UCLA Film & Telev
ision Archive. The Legacy Project is the only program in the world devot
ed to saving and preserving LGBT film and their work has made this rare
35mm screening possible. \nco-presented by Pacific Northwest Lesbian Ar

SUMMARY:Monsters In The Closet
DESCRIPTION:Seattle’s stunning Central Library is the setting for this fa
scinating presentation that examines gay and lesbian subtext in horror m
ovies\, showing how strikingly they parallel queer history. \n\nHosted
by Harry M. Benshoff and based on his book “Monsters in the Closet: Homo
sexuality and the Horror Film\,” this program explores the role of the “
monster queer” throughout film history\, from the classical Hollywood pe
riod to the postmodern era. This unique and illuminating presentation sh
ows us how horror films betray straight society’s fears of the outsider\
, while appealing to queer audiences’ identification with ostracized mon
sters. \n\nBenshoff provides insightful commentary illustrated by memor
able moments from such films as THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN\, DRACULA’S DA
 UGHTER\, CAT PEOPLE\, I WAS A TEENAGE FRANKENSTEIN\, PSYCHO\, HOMICIDAL\
, THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW\, THE HUNGER\, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
  2: FREDDY’S REVENGE\, FRIGHT NIGHT\, HELLRAISER\, and THE SILENCE OF TH
E LAMBS\, as well as films by out gay directors such as POISON\, THE BRO
THERHOOD\, and HELLBENT. \nThis is a free program.\n\n Special thanks to

SUMMARY:For My Wife...
DESCRIPTION:On December 14\, 2006\, a torrential rainstorm hit Seattle. W
ater flooded into the home of Kate Fleming and Charlene Strong. Kate\, a
n award-winning audio book narrator\, tried to retrieve equipment from h
er small basement studio but became trapped by the rising waters. When a
rescue team finally freed Kate\, she was unconscious and rushed to the
hospital. It was there that Charlene was denied access to Kate by a soci
al worker—because they weren’t married. Kate’s sister had to be called t
o give Charlene the necessary permission to be with Kate in her final mo
ments. The humiliation and discrimination Charlene faced at the hospital
and the funeral home\, compelled her to testify to the Washington legis
lature\, an act that became influential in passing the state’s historic
Domestic Partnership Registration Bill. \n\nThis powerful documentary h
umanizes the struggle for full marriage equality. It also chronicles the
making of an activist— Charlene has become a powerful voice for the equ
al rights of same-sex couples. And certainly\, the film is a tribute to
Kate Fleming: a “calm voice in the world\,” who often dedicated her work
simply—”for my wife.” \n\nThree Dollar Bill Cinema is proud to be the

SUMMARY:Sex Positive
DESCRIPTION:In late 1970s\, the sexual revolution was at its peak: gay me
n lived and loved with wild abandon. Young Richard Berkowitz arrived in
New York City and discovered lucrative work hustling as an S&M top— unti
l he developed AIDS. He transformed himself from sex worker to revolutio
nary AIDS activist\, enlisting performer Michael Callen and virologist D
 r. Joseph Sonnabend to investigate and bring attention to the illness. B
erkowitz also helped author the first safe-sex manual. But instead of be
ing lauded for their efforts\, their assertion that a hedonistic lifesty
le was contributing to the transmission of AIDS was denounced as self-ha
ting and sex-negative\, as few people were ready to face the reality tha
t their choices were endangering their health. \n\nWhile most people no
w acknowledge the wisdom of practicing safe sex\, Berkowitz’s influence
on early safe sex awareness has been all but forgotten. SEX POSITIVE wea

DESCRIPTION:Victor is a slick real estate agent in Madrid’s Chueca distri

their apartments and build a perfect gay neighborhood where the poor an
d portly need not apply. At first the police believe the deaths are suic

SUMMARY:The Hunger
DESCRIPTION:Love may never die\, but nothing human loves forever in this
stylish thriller epitomizing ‘80s chic and featuring three of the most a
lluring stars ever to be intertwined. Based on the novel by Whitley Stri
eber\, THE HUNGER joins together captivating French cinema great Catheri
ne Deneuve and British rock legend David Bowie as Miriam and John\, two
ageless vampires living in a luxurious Manhattan apartment and posing as
a Gothic punk couple. When John abruptly begins to age\, he turns to a

DESCRIPTION:If you are a science fiction fan or like to browse in booksto

imagistic documentary is the captivating chronicle of Samuel R. Delany.
The grandson of a slave\, he grew up in Harlem above a funeral parlor an

the world has been a more colorful place because of his many novels\, sh

SUMMARY:Derek
DESCRIPTION:Tilda Swinton narrates this moving tribute and love letter to
her friend\, British filmmaker Derek Jarman\, a pioneer of queer cinema
. Jarman died of AIDS in 1994\, but not before he left the world a colle
ction of cinematic gems\, from his 1976 film SEBASTIANE to EDWARD II (wi
th Swinton) to BLUE\, his last film\, which consists of a single image o
 f a blue screen. \n\nAt once an elegy\, documentary\, and meditation ab
out an artistic legacy of enduring importance\, DEREK eschews the usual
“talking heads” of documentaries. Instead\, Tilda Swinton\, Jarman’s mus
e and constant collaborator\, narrates the film by reading from a letter
\, while director Isaac Julien weaves together archival footage\, home m
ovies\, and interviews with Jarman’s friends (including David Hockney an
d the Pet Shop Boys) to create a remarkable portrait of Jarman’s life an
d work. Derek Jarman himself discusses his youth\, life\, loves\, and wo
rk. This is an original film for a truly original artist.

SUMMARY:My Super 8 Season
DESCRIPTION:In May 1968\, France was on the brink of another revolution.
MY SUPER 8 SEASON puts queer characters in the front and center of that
era’s tumult. Marc is an attractive Parisian student who tries to organi
ze other students to fight for gay rights\; his best friend Julie fights
for working-class\, feminist\, and lesbian causes. Although his gay rev
olutionary committee is rejected as bourgeois by the larger movement of
radical students\, Marc persists in his political engagement\, battling
with his policeman father while also trying to build a relationship with
André\, a handsome factory worker who says he’s not gay but can’t seem
to stop cruising around Paris. Meanwhile\, Julie rebounds from her separ
ation from her boyfriend Stephane by moving into a women-only commune an
d connecting with one of the residents. \n\nFilled with the type of you
ng and intellectually charged characters Godard would love\, the film ba
lances the personal and the political against a backdrop of social chang
 e. Inspired by the actual French gay revolutionaries of the period\, thi
s is an insightful\, invigorating\, and emotionally authentic recreation

SUMMARY:No End
DESCRIPTION:In his poignant and tender feature film debut\, Italian direc
tor Roberto Cuzzillo brings a uniquely subtle sensibility to the small m
oments that matter most. Giulia (Cristina Serafini) and Chiara (Irene Iv
aldi) have decided to have a child together\, but according to Italian l
aw\, only married heterosexual couples are allowed to procreate through
artificial insemination. So the two women travel to Holland for the proc
edure. But as they prepare\, things begin to fall apart. When Giulia’s m
other finds out the news\, she is devastated by the thought of her grand
child being raised without a father. Chiara discovers a lump in her brea
st and is now suddenly forced to confront sickness and death rather than
new life and birth. It is this sense of asymmetry that pervades the fil
m\, from its visual richness to its beautiful score. Only in a film wher
e a woman smokes a cigarette while shaving her armpits can joy\, uncerta
inty\, love\, and fear speak so fluently. \nASL Interpreting before the

DESCRIPTION:Lovers may come and go—but emails live forever. After the dea

mails to clean up Mark’s affairs. There are more than a thousand emails
in which Mark has been corresponding with men from all over the world\,
but one particular exchange—with an Italian man named Andrea (co-writer
Alessandro Calza)—emerges as more intimate\, more charged\, and somehow
deeper than the others. After discovering that Andrea is about to fly to

SUMMARY:Wild Combination: A Portrait Of Arthur Russell
DESCRIPTION:In the late ‘70s and early ‘80s\, idiosyncratic composer\, ce
llist\, and dance-music producer Arthur Russell crafted records that rev
erberated through New York nightclubs\; he also collaborated with Philip
Glass\, Allen Ginsberg\, Laurie Anderson\, and director Robert Wilson.
Since his death in 1992\, his influence has flourished: his oddball noti
ons of disco echo through the grooves of contemporary dance act Hercules
& Love Affair\; indie rocker Jens Lekman curated an EP of Russell’s art
-pop songs\; and his track “This Is How We Walk on the Moon” surfaced in
a British T-Mobile ad last year. In WILD COMBINATION\, director Matt Wo
lf mixes Russell’s music—some of it unheard for decades—with perceptive
reminiscences from colleagues and family\, performance clips\, and evoca
tive landscapes. Anchoring it all is the profoundly moving love story of
Russell and his partner Tom Lee. This mesmerizing documentary mirrors R

SUMMARY:Stefan Braun
DESCRIPTION:When Stefan Braun died in the early 1990s\, he left a fascina
ting legacy behind him. Life as Tel Aviv’s premier furrier had made him
a social darling catering to the chic and the wealthy with his high-end
fur coats. When he died he left his estate to his longtime lover and par
tner\, Eliezer Rath\, prompting Braun’s family to contest the will. Fabu
lous archival footage provides a glimpse into gay 1950s Tel Aviv\, while
interviews\, diary entries\, photo stills\, and home movies attempt to
provide some insight into Braun’s private life. The details are what mak
es the documentary STEFAN BRAUN so fascinating. Rath keeps Braun’s room
exactly the same as it was when Braun died and sits in there every day t
alking and recording hundreds of messages to his lost lover. Meanwhile\,
Braun’s extended family paints a portrait of Rath as more of a servant
than a longterm partner\, further complicating Braun’s persona and his c

SUMMARY:Save Me
DESCRIPTION:Mark (Chad Allen) enjoys more than his fair share of drugs an
d anonymous sex. But when he finally hits rock bottom\, his brother deci
des to check him into Genesis House\, a Christian retreat dedicated to h
ealing “sexual brokenness” through a 12-step program of spiritual guidan
ce and life lessons led by Gayle (Judith Light) and her husband Ted (Ste
phen Lang). \n\nAt first Mark rejects the many rules and regulations of
his new surroundings\, but soon he opens up and embraces what Genesis H
ouse has to offer\, even coming to think he can and should renounce his
“lifestyle choice.” Mark also grows closer to the other residents\, espe
cially longtime resident Scott (Robert Gant)\, who is charged with helpi
ng Mark through the steps. What starts out as a friendship soon grows in
to an attraction both Mark and Scott have difficulty suppressing. Gayle
becomes suspicious of them\, accusing Scott of having more than platonic
intentions. Seeing a threat to both Mark’s progress and the future of h
er ministry\, Gayle starts to lose control and is forced to face some ha
rsh truths about her past and her beliefs\, while Scott and Mark are tor
n between their desire to change and their feelings for one another. \n
\nSAVE ME tackles the debate between religion and homosexuality without
caricaturing or stereotyping either side. The result is an effective\, e
ngaging drama that humanizes the debate with a realistic story and skill
ed performances. Light brings a complexity to Gayle’s character\, in man
y ways serving as the emotional center of the film. Out gay actors Allen
and Gant impress in their roles\, achieving a rapport that breathes lif
e into their characters’ relationship\, making SAVE ME an unforgettable
and powerful film. \n Click Here to View Trailer \nco-presented by Sea

SUMMARY:It's Still Elementary: The Movie And The Movement
DESCRIPTION:When it premiered in 1996\, IT’S ELEMENTARY: TALKING ABOUT GA
Y ISSUES IN SCHOOL was a groundbreaking documentary. The film boldly acc
omplished what few thought was even possible: discussing LGBT people and
prejudice against them with young students in age-appropriate ways. Awa
rdwinning directors Debra Chasnoff and Helen S. Cohen took their cameras
to six schools across the country and showed how educators were bravely
teaching these important\, matter-of-fact lessons. \n\nTwelve years la
ter\, IT’S STILL ELEMENTARY shares stories from behind the scenes of the
original film and recounts the changes it’s ignited around the globe. I
t also answers some interesting questions: What’s become of these studen
ts who were taught to respect people for who they are? What’s happened t
o the fearless teachers who took risks to bring LGBT people into their c
lassrooms? And how was this film even made in the first place? \n\nMuch
progress has been made over the last 12 years\, but there’s still a lon
g way to go. Fortunately these compelling films show exactly how address
ing antigay prejudice in the classroom prevents violence\, supports fami
lies\, and promotes social equality—a message that someday soon might be
  child’s play.

SUMMARY:Eleven Minutes
DESCRIPTION:Two years after designer Jay McCarroll’s big win on the first
season of Project Runway\, filmmakers Michael Selditch and Rob Tate go
backstage to chronicle the year-long journey of “the next great American
designer” preparing for his first independent show at New York’s Fashio
n Week. Why\, everyone wants to know\, is it taking him so long to show
his first collection? Documenting the design and production of a line of
clothing from sketch to sales\, this entertaining exposé weaves togethe
r the drama\, humor\, stress\, and contradictions implicit in turning ou
t high-fashion on a low budget (not to mention getting friends to sew dr
 esses\, make shoes\, style hair\, design jewelry\, deliver invitations\,
and provide publicity—all for free). A bitchy but resilient McCarroll p
ours sweat and tears into his life’s passion as numerous disasters threa
ten his moment in the spotlight—a show lasting eleven minutes. The high
stakes of proving himself contrast with the absurdity of the fashion wor
ld\, challenging our notions of art and industry\, innovation and confor
mity\, fame and talent\, salesmanship and success.

SUMMARY:Pansy Division: Life In A Gay Rock Band
DESCRIPTION:Queercore pop-punk rockers Pansy Division get the spotlight i
n PANSY DIVISION: LIFE IN A GAY ROCK BAND. Founded in the early ‘90s\, t
he band just wanted to make music that they would actually want to liste
n to\, earning themselves a spot in queer history in the process. Their
in-your-face lyrics about their sexuality were frequently hilarious and
far from closeted\, which fit in nicely with the gay activism of the day
as well as punk’s DIY ethos. This fast-paced documentary has a similarl
y humorous DIY feel as it follows them from hilarious SPINAL TAP-esque l
ineup changes to their stint as the opening act for Green Day’s stadium
tour. Featuring rare archival footage and interviews with some major fig
ures of punk and pop-punk history\, including Jello Biafra (of the Dead
Kennedys) and Billie Joe Armstrong (of Green Day)\, this is a great film
for music fans\, people interested in early ‘90s San Francisco\, and an
yone who can appreciate song titles like “Bill & Ted’s Homosexual Advent
 ure.”

SUMMARY:The World Unseen
DESCRIPTION:Adapted from her novel of the same name\, writer-director Sha
mim Sarif’s debut film follows two Indian women in 1950s South Africa as
they navigate a constricting environment of apartheid and rural isolati
on where there is little room for individual choice. The sensual Amina h
as never fit into this world. She scandalizes her traditional Indian fam
ily by wearing a man’s shirt and trousers. She even owns and runs her ow
n café\, where\, despite police harassment\, Amina allows (and even enco
urages) the races to mingle freely. Conversely\, the life of Miriam has
been one of duty to her children and husband Omar. However\, when Omar m
oves the family out of town to open a grocery (curiously remote from any
customers)\, Miriam is drawn into a dangerous and infectiously freethin

The filmmakers have denied ever having a gay agenda when creating this f

SUMMARY:Directed By Dorothy Arzner: A Script Reading
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTED BY DOROTHY ARZNER is the story of Hollywood’s most a
ccomplished\, groundbreaking\, and forgotten female director. Arzner was
a star-making director of more studio features than any female in histo
ry and also inventor of the boom microphone. Although she was discreet\,
there was no mistaking Dorothy’s sexual orientation or the coded refere
nces to a world of strong women in films starring Katharine Hepburn\, Ro
salind Russell\, Lucille Ball\, Joan Crawford\, and\, in her first “talk
ie\,” Clara Bow. Driven out of Hollywood in the early 1940s by a changin
g studio regime\, Dorothy and her remarkable legacy went largely forgott
en until now. Written by Chris J. Russo and Glenn Gaylord\, DIRECTED BY
DOROTHY ARZNER was accepted into Film Independent’s prestigious Screenwr
iters Lab and their Directors Lab. \n\nRusso’s A WOMAN REPORTED screene
d at Sundance\, and STRAIGHT DOWN THE AISLE: CONFESSIONS OF LESBIAN BRID
ESMAIDS won Best Short Documentary at Outfest. Gaylord’s short\, BOYCHIC
K won an award at SIFF\, LOST CAUSE played Slamdance\; and he is current

SUMMARY:Local Produce: Shorts
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Local Produce program showcases two amazing short
documentaries. Both films were locally made\, and each features a Seatt

izations the recognition they richly deserve. \n\nBAILEY-BOUSHAY HOUSE:
  A LIVING HISTORY Terence Brown\, director\; 2008\; US\; 32 min. \n\nA
compelling look at the first nursing home and hospice in the United Sta
tes for people with HIV/AIDS. Bailey-Boushay House broke ground in the l
ate ‘80s\, during the height of the fear and discrimination surrounding
the AIDS epidemic. The film follows the story of a grassroots effort to
build the facility\, vividly portraying both the community’s immense com
passion and enormous loss. \n\nTHIS LAND IS OUR LAND: A CHORUS TOUR Jo

courageous members of the Seattle Men’s Chorus and Seattle Women’s Choru

the reaction “out there” is welcoming and heart-warming. Mixing with gay

SUMMARY:Equality U
DESCRIPTION:Infamous televangelist Jerry Falwell once said that he would
rather have his school\, Liberty University\, burn to the ground than ha
ve gays on campus. Liberty University is just one of 200 colleges and un
iversities in the U.S. that practice religion-based discrimination\, usi
ng policies banning homosexuality. So in 2006\, a group of three dozen y
oung Christians-—some of whom had been expelled from college for being g
ay—-founded the Equality Ride in the hopes of starting a dialogue with s
tudents at these schools. EQUALITY U chronicles their cross-country bus
tour that ultimately visited 19 schools\, spanning the country from Virg
inia to California to Minnesota. Some schools met the protesters with he
ckling\, arrests\, and even locked doors. But other institutions welcome
d the debate. “I realized that it wasn’t God that was rejecting me\, it
was one of his children\,” one student is later able to admit. Even with
10\,000 students reached on the tour\, the fight is just beginning.

SUMMARY:Wrangler: Anatomy Of An Icon
DESCRIPTION:Before the Internet made it easy to strut your stuff for the
world\, pornography was a shadowy realm. But in the 1970s hot and fame-h
ungry Jack Wrangler burst onto the scene. Not content to be another anon
ymous stud\, he unabashedly took center stage. Muscular\, masculine\, sm
art\, sexy\, and proudly gay\, Wrangler quickly became a major brand nam
e in adult entertainment and a hero to newly liberated gay men. This sel
f-proclaimed spoiled kid from Beverly Hills appeared in over 80 adult fi
lms and introduced celebrity into the world of pornography. With his sig
hts set on even bigger stardom\, Wrangler successfully switched into str
aight porn and even began to direct legitimate theatre. In an even more
surprising twist\, he married pop singer Margaret Whiting\; their contro
versial\, unconventional relationship is still going strong (and still m
aking headlines) today. \n\nThis entertaining documentary brings us bac
k to the world of ‘70s porno movie houses\, with rare vintage clips of W
rangler in action. Through revealing interviews with celebrities from Ch
i Chi La Rue to Bruce Vilanch to Jack himself\, we’re treated to one of
the most outrageous and unexpected success stories to ever be exposed. \

SUMMARY:The New World
DESCRIPTION:Lucie’s biological clock is ticking. She tells her partner Ma
rion that she wants a child\, but has her own ideas of how to go about i
t: she doesn’t want to adopt and she’s not interested in shopping at a s
perm bank. Lucie wants to know the biological father\, but insists that
he relinquish all rights to the child. Since that doesn’t seem to be too
much to ask\, Marion agrees\, and the women go on a progressively more
outrageous quest to find a donor\, until an old friend agrees to step up
to the plate. All seems well until the growing reality of the pregnancy
and birth of their child raises unanticipated and uncomfortable questio

if the biological father decides he wants to be more involved? THE NEW W

SUMMARY:Dead Gay Men & Living Lesbians
DESCRIPTION:Juxtaposing interviews of German gay men who lived through Wo
rld War II but have since died with those of contemporary German lesbian
s\, influential independent director Rosa von Praunheim creates a striki
ng portrait contrasting men who spent their lives in silence with women
whose voices are now at the forefront of today’s queer culture in German
 y. DEAD GAY MEN & LIVING LESBIANS allows each story to stand on its own.
Imprisoned and made to endure many indignities during WWII\, Walter Sch
wartze states\, “The way I am has always made me suffer.” Manuela Kay ha
s confidently evolved from lesbian porn producer to the publisher of Ger
many’s first lesbian magazine. Ninety-year old Albrecht Becker became an
extreme masochist\, both enduring and enjoying his time in prison. Berl
in-based Turkish DJ Ipec moves assuredly through the club scene and forg
es a cross-cultural relationship with her German partner. \n\nFollowing

SUMMARY:Drifting Flowers
DESCRIPTION:From the director of SPIDER LILIES (SLGFF 2007)\, the quietly
affecting DRIFTING FLOWERS tells the interconnected stories of three Ta
iwanese women living in different times\, weaving a multidimensional por
trait of age (young and old)\, commitment (maintained and broken)\, and
love (returned and denied) between friends\, family\, acquaintances and
lovers. In the first segment\, eight-year-old May discovers the bitter t
aste of first love when she accidentally sees her blind sister Jing kiss
ing their band’s tomboy accordionist Diego. In another time and place\,
Lily struggles with Alzheimer’s and her fragile memory of youth. When he

cted with HIV and is giving up on life. As their health collapses\, the
two form an unexpected bond and rediscover the meaning of life and love.
Finally\, there is Diego. Years before\, she left her hometown and join
